Airtime 1.9.5 - open source, free radio automation and scheduling software

Hi all,

Airtime 1.9.5 has just been released. It comes with an 'easy install' package that sets up a quick configuration without the need to enter any settings. Airtime 1.9.5 is, as always, free to download, runs on Ubuntu and Debian, and users can interact with it through any web browser.

I love the idea of airtime, but it lacks too much functionality (unless I'm missing something in which case please feel free to correct me)

1. You have to work with playlists that are built in advance,
2. You can not add to a playlist that is currently playing,
3. You can not add individual tracks (eg you have a playlist playing but a request comes in, you have to build a new playlist to play after the current one)
4. You can't re-order songs once the playlist is playing
5. You can't have jingles played every x songs

This is a huge diversion from other radio automation software that I've seen (I've had experience with SAM, RadioDJ and Zara)

The idea of having a web interface is great, as I work for a community radio station and provide the backup stream if theirs goes down for whatever reason, the remote control functionality would at least let them have some control over what the backup stream plays rather than a pure auto-dj stream which is what we have as a backup at the moment.

Like I said, I may be missing things here, but I've installed on Ubuntu today and had a dig around and can't find the points above, or maybe I'm asking too much from a web based automation solution.

Thanks for testing and taking the time to give feedback! You are, of course, right. 2012 will be the year that these features get built into Airtime (as a piece of software, it's only 7 months old and in continual development). Live support is a huge priority for us and we're actively working with radio stations to define this functionality. I'll pass your feedback directly onto the development team - in the meantime if you or anyone else would like to help shape the roadmap and feature set, you are more than welcome to join our forums or sign up to the newsletter to stay tuned on future releases.

Fantastic, I see that it is actively being developed, and I really like the idea, and the huge benefits it will offer, I will definitely by trying it out when the next version is released because it has huge potential.

In fact, I'm going to reinstall it and track the versions and look forward to the forthcoming improvements!

Been having a bit of a think about this one, most providers who offer an online auto-dj facility charge a considerable sum and you still have to switch them on / off manually. This could be installed on my VPS and save me shed loads, especially once you get the auto-dj into Airtime.

On a VPS is it possible to have multiple installs as I host more than one station?

Unfortunately, it's currently not possible to have multiple installs on a server and each airtime install needs its own virtual machine...

Great! Let us know how you get on. We're up to version 2.0.3 now with 2.1 set to touchdown very soon.

New features include ability to schedule audio tracks directly into a show, edit the show while it's playing, allow a DJ to connect remotely and broadcast a live show, plus the ability to export what was broadcast as a report. (Hopefully this might answer some of Iain's feature requests above!)
