I have agreed with you on a lot of topics in the past rooster, but on this one Were walking two different directions. Nothing against XP, just Vista.

But heres Vista the concept that makes me angry:

"Yep, XP is smooth as glass. Hey, I got an idea. Lets make another version of windows! We will make sure its just different enough from XP to be not very cross-compatible software wise. DON'T tell the vendors its coming... This is almost as smart as that time I went and installed FREEBSD on EVERYTHING!"

XP was not necessarily smooth as silk to start. It has evolved from NT to 2000 and XP. Early XP adopters, including myself, had their share of compatibilty problems. See the aforementioned, squeal of death....

Vendors had more than enough knowledge that Vista was coming. Unfortunately, with a large installed base of XP users from a business perspective it didn't make sense for most of them to offer Vista compatibility with regard to patches and drivers.

Windows 7, by all accounts, will be a more polished higher performing version of Vista. Technology advances. I prefer the security and features that Vista offers over XP.

Having said that I still use XP for legacy apps that aren't supported under XP.

Yep. I agree with you on windows 7. Way to screw up a well oiled machine GATES! I hope he fired the guy that came up with Vista, and that bum is begging for quarters at the side of the street. JUST so I can throw my warm coffee at him. I wouldn't want to burn his face with coffee, because then the guy driving behind me wouldn't recognize him, and throw their coffee as well.

Vista may be good for my 96 YO never-dying aunt, who needs big icons and rotating wheels of icons to navigate. HOWEVER, for the broadcasting community, this creative "sequel of death" is nothing compared to the loss of "what-U-hear/stereo-mix" . It screwed most of the winamp broadcasting community when they upgraded.

What you hear is available in Vista. I have found that Dell and many other manufacturers hobbled the drivers in some cases including XP.

Here is a fix: http://www.driverheaven.net/audio-ge...-hear-how.html

My Creative X-Fi doesn't require this workaround, however as support is built in.

It will appear, however, GUI apps wont interface with it, meaning all those free mixers are worthless.
